Buddypress Extended Profile Image Field Plugin
I had detailed a while back in this post the steps to adding an image field type to your BuddyPress Extended Profiles component. A lot of people (as is evident from the comments) got some good use out of that. However, PHP and Javascript are not everyone’s cup of tea so there were many challenges in getting the raw code to work.
I finally got some time to package the code into a plugin which you can download at the WordPress Plugins repository. Give it a spin and let me know how it fairs in your particular setup. The plugin should be ok on WordPress 3.2.1 to 3.8.1 running BuddyPress 1.5 to 1.9.2
Thanks very much for all the feedback I got in the comments on the behaviour of the code.
UPDATE:
Plugin en el español (http://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-xprofile-image-field/) por Andrew de WebHostingHub. Gracias Andrew!
Hi Alex,
I’m Andrew from WebHostingHub. We are doing Spanish translations of useful plugins in order to ease the people from Hispanic community and we consider that your BuddyPress XProfile Image Field plugin that we found at https://alextheafrican.wordpress.com/2014/03/12/buddypress-extended-profile-image-field-plugin/ is very interesting.
Would it be ok with you, if I translate it into Spanish?
I hope I’ll hear from you soon.
Kind regards
Andrew Kurtis

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the consideration. This is quite in order and I welcome any efforts at increasing the plugin’s user base.
Thank you for your answer.
In order for me to do the translation, I need you to create the languages file, as explained here http://wpmu.org/localize-a-wordpress-plugin-and-make-it-translation-ready/ so I can access it with Po edit program .
When you’re done just email me and I’ll start with translating. And when I’m done I’ll send you back the translated files so that you can add them in the plugin.
Thank you.
Great plugin Alex! I believe the latest BuddyPress update broke your plugin as it no longer works. Can you take a look and see if you can fix it?
Thanks for the feedback Denis. I’ll have a look and see what’s up.
I’ve uploaded an update. Should work OK on the new BuddyPress
thank you here, very helpful
Hi Alex. I’m using the image field so people can add images of their dogs. Is there way to restrict the size of the image to one similar to the profile image size ? Any image I upload is displayed far too big. Cheers !
